Strategic Planning Orientation Session
A facilitated group training session for elected officials or your executive leadership team to get everyone on the same page about strategic planning. What it is, why it matters, and what role they play in the development and implementation process. Perfect for groups with new members or organizations about to begin a strategic planning process.

If your organization:

Has new elected officials or directors.

Is getting ready to start a new strategic planning process or refresh an existing plan.

Wants to level-set expectations and roles around the strategic plan so everyone knows where they fit in.

Needs buy-in and engagement on the current strategic plan.

Wants to maintain momentum and generate conversations that lead to greater impact.
You need a strategic plan orientation session.
Your team will leave understanding:

The importance of a strategic plan and how it relates to other plans,

The Strategic Plan Pyramid and general roles associated with each level,

Their specific role in the planning and implementation process,

How to keep the community or staff engaged in the strategic plan, and

Do's and Don'ts for more successful planning and implementation.
What's Included?

Two, 60-minute Planning and Preparation meetings with organization 's lead,

90-Minute Facilitated Group Training (virtual or in-person),

Pre and post email communications for participants

Slide deck and session materials, and

One, 60-minute virtual debrief meeting to discuss session and any next steps.
But...
This orientation session is not a big ticket item and generally won't even require a procurement vehicle. You can probably even use a p-card. Stratalysts believes in the need for this type of orientation session and wants it to be accessible to all local governments; when you need it, not a year from now when the next budget cycle kicks in.
The orientation session can be held at any time during the plan development or implementation process. Making sure your elected officials and leaders understand the purpose of the plan and know their role can be done at any time and will still benefit the organization greatly. Stratalysts will work with your plan development vendor or implementation lead to integrate the orientation session seamlessly into wherever your organization finds itself.
Even if you already have a strategic plan, an orientation session is a valuable way for your and your elected officials to evaluate how things are going and identify areas that many need more clarity for greater success.
The orientation session is designed to be held during a standing work session or leadership team meeting. At just 90-minutes, this session can also easily fit into other previously scheduled annual council or leadership team retreats.
Even organizations practiced in strategic planning can benefit from an orientation session. Participants are able to gain deeper insight into how they can personally support the plan and gain a shared understanding of where the organization might want to fine tune implementation. Additionally, even when we think everyone knows, it's good practice to clarify and make sure everyone is on the same page.

About Stratalysts

Hi! I'm Shannon, the founder of Stratalysts. After working for and with local governments for over twenty years I was tired of seeing so many good plans fall by the wayside. Over and over again I watched (or participated in) great strategic plans being developed and going nowhere. Not because the plans weren't solid. Not because the elected officials or staff didn't want to make it happen. And definitely not because people weren't good at their jobs. Local government is filled with brilliant people who are doing incredible things. The plans didn't go anywhere for a few simple reasons: alignment, prioritization, and connection. If you don't have these three things, your strategic plan might be harder to implement than you think. I want to help make sure that doesn't happen, or course correct if it already has. Stratalysts gets everyone one the same page, focusing on the right things, and moving strategically. Let's move beyond strategic planning and start acting that way.

Stratalysts didn't stop at planning; they rolled up their sleeves and worked alongside us to execute the strategy. Their commitment to results was evident in every milestone achieved.
