Mayor & Board Chair Guide

A guide written just for mayors and board chairs that describes their specific role in strategic planning and implementation, what they can do to ensure success, and how to keep their colleagues and community engaged. This guide is a great way to introduce new mayors or chairs to their role as a strategic leader or give tenured leaders a renewed focus on the strategic plan.

A practical, plain-language guide to local government strategic planning: what it is, why it matters, and how to make it actually work. Includes role clarity, common pitfalls, and simple “do this now” steps to move from paper to progress.

Strategic Plan Pyramid & Discussion Guide

A tool that helps local governments clarify roles, goals, and areas of focus within a strategic plan. The pyramid spurs conversation and illustrates that every role within an organization contributes to the success of successful strategic planning. Includes discussion guide for leading a 15 to 20 minute conversation among elected officials or local government leaders.

About Stratalysts

Hi! I'm Shannon, the founder of Stratalysts. After working for and with local governments for over twenty years I was tired of seeing so many good plans fall by the wayside. Over and over again I watched (or participated in) great strategic plans being developed and going nowhere. Not because the plans weren't solid. Not because the elected officials or staff didn't want to make it happen. And definitely not because people weren't good at their jobs. Local government is filled with brilliant people who are doing incredible things. The plans didn't go anywhere for a few simple reasons: alignment, prioritization, and connection. If you don't have these three things, your strategic plan might be harder to implement than you think. I want to help make sure that doesn't happen, or course correct if it already has. Stratalysts gets everyone one the same page, focusing on the right things, and moving strategically. Let's move beyond strategic planning and start acting that way.

Stratalysts didn't stop at planning; they rolled up their sleeves and worked alongside us to execute the strategy. Their commitment to results was evident in every milestone achieved.
